Obituary of Walter J. Michenfelder

Walter J. "Mich/Sonny" Michenfelder, Jr., age 77, of Brookhaven, PA, died Thursday, February 9, 2017. Walter was born in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Walter J. and Mary (McKenzie) Michenfelder. He was a US Army Veteran, serving in Vietnam, as a Sharpshooter. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and also a National Defense Service Medal. He was employed with Roadway Express, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local #312. He was a member at Atglen Sportsmen's Club. He enjoyed traveling through the United States and Canada and was an avid sportsman, enjoying fishing and hunting. Mich and his wife Dot, enjoyed cruising through the United States, Jamaica and the Caribbean. Most of all, he was devoted to his family, especially his grandson and great grandchildren. Father of the late Robert A. "Chip" Bates, Jr. Survivors: Loving Wife of 47 years: Dorothy "Dot" Michenfelder Son: George Bates Daughter: Irene (James) Boyer Grandson: James (Lauren) Boyer, Jr. Great-Grandchildren: Shawn, Riley, and James, III. Brother: Robert (Gloria) Michenfelder Sister: Theresa Suarez Also survived by many nieces and nephews Funeral Service: Thursday, February 16th at 11:00AM at the Minshall Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, Ltd., Middletown (Rte. #352) & Knowlton Rds., Middletown Twp., Media, PA, 19063. Visitation: Wednesday, February 15th from 7:00-9:00PM and Thursday, February 16th after 10:00AM at the funeral home. Interment: Chester Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Mich to: Crozer-Keystone Hospice Residence at Taylor Hospital, 175 East Chester Pike, Ridley Park, PA 19078.
