Obituary of Eleanor S. Butler

Eleanor Shisler Butler went home to be with the Lord on August 17, 2011. She had recently moved to Garden Spot Village in New Holland, PA, from her home of 61 years on Smithbridge Road, Glen Mills, PA. She suddenly took ill and died in the Ephrata Community Hospital. Eleanor was born August 22, 1917 in Philadelphia, PA, to Randolph E. and Edna J. Shisler. She grew up at Fisher's Corner, PA where her parents had the Shisler's Gardens vegetable and flower business. Eleanor was a dedicated homemaker and in earlier years often served in election polls and in the local schools. She has a multitude of friends of varying ages and has been an inspiration and encouragement to many. When she was able, she loved attending church at Fellowship Baptist Church of Glen Mills, Pa, and First Baptist Church of Ogden, PA. She always enjoyed family gatherings and friends stopping in for a visit. In her later years, her favorite pastimes were reading and jigsaw puzzles, and she was grateful for the help and friendship of the ladies who came to her home from Home Instead. The family's thanks also go out to the doctors and nursed of the Ephrata Hospital ER and ICU staff. Eleanor is predeceased by her husband Robert R. Butler, Sr. of 53 years, her parents, and her brothers John and George Shisler. SURVIVORS: 2 DAUGHTERS: Doris McKinney and her husband William of Wilmington, DE and Janet Berry and her husband Doug of Glen Mills, PA. SON: Dr. Robert R. Butler, Jr. and his wife Lynn of North Oaks, MN. 4 GRANDCHILDREN: Drew McKinney (Dawn), Sharon Weber (Christopher), Amanda Stambaugh (Shane) and Robert R. Butler III. 6 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Julia, Matthew, Owen and Emma Weber and Anna and Ashley Stambaugh.
