Obituary of Joseph Allen Cairns

Al Cairns born December 8, 1926 passed peacefully on October 18, 2011 at Riddle Village surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Yeadon by father Al Cairns and mother Dorothy Wilson Cairns. Al was a three letter man at Yeadon High and was an active member of the Yeadon Alumni Association. After Serving in the US Navy during WWII, Al graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania where he lettered in basketball and was a member of Kappa Sigma. Al worked for Burroughs Corp for 35 years in sales and marketing. Al would say he was a peddler all his life and rose through the ranks, often being sent to troubled territories to turn them around. Al rose to "Chief" of operations for the New England Region. Al made lifelong friends at Burroughs and was an original participant and eventual leader for the annual BWE event for 50 years. Al was a lover of Sea Isle where he taught all his offspring how to body surf and was given the key to the City in 2005. He was a thirty year member of Rolling Green Golf Club. While attending Penn, Al met the love of his life, Carter Lenham. Al and Cart were married for 64 years and had five children Father of the late Craig Cairns SURVIVORS Wife of 64 years Carter Lenham Cairns Children: Lynn Meyer (Jack) of Florida, Ted Cairns (Tammie) of Michigan, Beth Pauley (Kent) of Pennsylvania and Joe Cairns (Leah) of New Mexico Seven grandchildren: Kelley Mehan (Marty), Scott Moore, Nicole Cairns (Christy), Brad Cairns, Lauren Zuzelski (Mike), Gwyn Pauley and Leah Pauley Great-grandson: Carter Zuzelski.
