Obituary of Edward DeRienze

Edward DeRienze, 91, of Media, PA, passed away December 15, 2010. Born in Philadelphia, Ed attended Olney High School. He worked in the bindery and printing departments of Curtis Publishing Company for 25 years, where he helped publish the Saturday Evening Post and Ladies Home Journal. Later he was a draftsman at the General Electric Switchgear department in Philadelphia, and a designer with Allen-Sherman-Hoff in Malvern, PA. He joined the US Army in 1940, serving in the 94th Chemical Mortar Battalion. He was stationed in San Diego, CA, with a barrage balloon unit, and served as an armorer in Europe during the Battle of the Bulge, attaining the rank of Corporal. Ed was an avid sportsman and conservationist throughout his life. He was president of the Delaware County Field & Stream Association in the 1970"s and editor of their Club News for 35 years. He helped build the field archery range in the 1960's, and advocated the creation of their air rifle range, where he was the Rangemaster for the last 15 years. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, and qualified at the expert level with rifle and pistol. H enjoyed playing the mandolin and guitar, and was known for repairing air rifles and pistols of all types. He was a fisherman for many years, and a member of the Outdoor Writers Association. He published reviews and how-to articles in several magazines, and did the photography for books on archery and canoeing. His beloved wife Hedy pre-deceased him in 2001. SURVIVORS: Two Sons: Bruce DeRienze of Amherst, NH and Eric DeRienze of Dennisville, NJ Two Grandsons: Brian DeRienze of Leominster, MA and Douglas DeRienze of Manchester, NH Three Great-Grandchildren:Megan, Maxwell and Alice.
