Obituary of Mildred Merkert

Mildred Hirst Merkert, "Mitchie", 91, of Granite Farm Estates, died Saturday, January 29, 2011 at home. Mrs. Merkert was born in Philadelphia, PA. Mitchie graduated from Swarthmore High School in 1937 and worked for an insurance company until she met her husband, Cliff Merkert. Mitchie and Cliff belonged to the First Presbyterian Church of Springfield for many years and participated in whatever ways they could. Mitchie, a member of Rolling Green Country Club, enjoyed golf. She also enjoyed their swim club, bridge, bowling and miniature golf. She enjoyed traveling with Cliff throughout the US and many countries throughout the world. Pre-deceased by her loving husband and best friend, Cliff Merkert and daughter, Anne Merkert Anderson, parents, Beulah Corson Hirst and William Ambrose Hirst; older sisters, Eleanor, 10 years older and Beatrice (Babe) who was 8 years older. Survivors Son: William Merkert Son-in-law, Robert (Alice) Anderson, II Grandson, Robert Anderson, III Granddaughter, Lisa Bell Great-Grandson: Colin Bell Brother-in-law, Rodney (Penny) Merkert.
