Obituary of Samuel M. Von Kummer

Samuel M. von Kummer, 91, a resident of Wallingford for over 40 years, died on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at his home in Wallingford, PA. Born in San Antonio, TX, he was the son of Ferdinand G. von Kummer, Jr. and Ruth L. von Kummer. He was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. He was a graduate of North Tarrytown High School, in 1937, and earned a degree in accounting from George Washington University in 1941. During World War II, he trained at the Naval Aviator Training in Pensacola, FL, Class of 1942, going on to serve as Senior Lieutenant, flying missions in Europe and Africa. After receiving his law degree from DePaul Law University in Chicago, IL in 1953, he was employed by Arthur Andersen & Company, where he remained for over 30 years until his retirement. At Arthur Andersen, he became a partner of the firm, and was the head of the Tax Department in the Philadelphia office. On special assignment, he was chosen to head the Arthur Andersen office in Sydney, Australia and was partner in charge of the Southeast Asia Division for two years. He served as a past President of the Philadelphia Estate Planning Council. Sam was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is predeceased by his oldest daughter Margaret "Pegge" von Kummer Shannon and his brother the late Ferdinand G. von Kummer III.
