I’m grateful for the holiday meals at Jay and Melanie’s with Granny and Aunt Gyn. Aunt Gyn always had a smile and I was sure of many laughs during the meal!
She and Granny welcomed my daughter-Audrey and I immediately on our return to the area.
I once removed a splinter from Gyn’s arm-she was so appreciative, you’d have thought I performed a heart transplant.
Having the ice cream gene, she is a kindred spirit. Rest in peace Aunt Gyn. XO. Susan
My father was the oldest of the 8 children in the Smedley family. He had 4 sisters. Aunt Doll was the oldest. All of his sisters were wonderful and funny in their own way. I guess because our Nanny was so funny. They all had a hard time growing up. Aunt Doll worked hard and lived the life she wanted to live. All you had to say was "Nancy" to get a smile on her face. She took Nancy and me to the Sunship summer cookouts, even putting us up on stage to sing. She took us bowling to her weekly league. I went Friday night shopping with her in downtown Chester. I was with her when she bought a diamond band for her watch. The jeweler told her she looked like the actress Rhonda Fleming. We laughed at that one. When she gave her youngest sister Helen a mink coat, Aunt Helen asked me if I wanted her sheared beaver coat . I still have it. My parents, me, Aunt Doll and her longtime boyfriend Bob went to Bermuda. We had a great time. She was my Maid of Honor on my wedding day. She was always there for everyone in our family. She didn't care much for food but ice cream was her favorite. She went through 2 half gallons a week while living at her home. She liked a milkshake in her final years. She traveled extensively, spending Februarys in Hawaii and taking many cruises. Richard, Joseph, and I did the Bahamas Disney cruise with her and the family. She loved a good cocktail. We had quite a few together. Her favorite was the Old Fashion Sharon made her every Sunday with Aunt My's family. We can never thank our cousin Jay for taking such good care of her. God bless Aunt Doll gone but never will be forgotten.
