Edna Mitchell

Obituary of Edna June Mitchell

Edna June (Terry) Mitchell, age 97, of Aston, PA, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2025. Affectionately known as “Nan” to her grandchildren and all who loved her, Edna was a graduate of Philadelphia High School.

She was a true homebody who took great pride in her home in Aston, and most recently, her “combo” in Wilmington, DE. Her greatest joy was in caring for her family. She loved to feed anyone who visited her, often saying, “ya gotta eat, Dolly!”

An artist with both ceramics and yarn, she filled her life—and the lives of others—with handcrafted beauty, from delicate crochet blankets to lovingly painted ceramics that adorned her home. Each piece told a story of devotion, patience, and love.

Nan loved animals, especially her dog Maverick.  In her free time, she also enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, reading, and rocking on the porch.

Edna was predeceased by her loving husband, Walter Hugh Mitchell Sr. They were married for over 60 years and she missed him dearly everyday since his passing in 2007.

She was also predeceased by her parents, Leon and Bertha Terry, her beloved daughter, Linda Hancox and her son-in-law, Howard Hancox.

Edna is survived by her son, Steven (Carolyn) Mitchell, grandson, David (Katie) Hancox, Granddaughter, Rachel Mitchell, and Great-Grandsons, Luke and Liam Hancox and Chandler Wayne.

Also survived by son Walter H. Mitchell, Jr.
