Obituary of Joan M. McKee

Joan (Malseed) McKee, age 98, passed on Thursday, August 7, 2025 surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Joan spent her youth in Media, PA and graduated from Media High School. While attending high school, she was a drum majorette with the band and lettered in basketball. Joan brightened her life with many extracurriculars such as choir, dance club, and bowling. Shortly after high school, Joan acquired a job working at the Media Courthouse.

While working at Media Courthouse, Joan met a handsome and well dressed gentleman named Thomas McKee. Tom quickly became the love of her life and they spent 65 years blissfully married before Tom’s passing in 2014. After marriage, Tom and Joan resided in Chester, PA where they made life long friends. Joan spent her days as a homemaker where she cared and provided for her 4 children. She spent lots of time actively involved with all her children’s activities. Tom and Joan helped out as band parents, assisted with cub/girl scouts, and dutifully supported their children at sporting events. Their love and support continued well into their children’s adulthood.

As Joan’s children aged, she was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was not the kind of grandmother that was only seen at special events or birthday parties. Joan was involved in school pickups, sporting events, and weeknight dinners. Sleepovers at her home are some of the best memories that she gave to her grandchildren. As the matriarch of her family, Joan will be sorely missed yet happily remembered through the memories she created.

Joan is predeceased by her parents Edgar and Lucy (Benson) Malseed, her husband Thomas R McKee, her sons J. Michael McKee and Terrence P. McKee, and her siblings Clinton, Ivan, Francis “Bub”, Donald, and Miriam.

Joan is survived by her daughters Deborah J. McKee (Michele) and Donna L. Heneks (Wood), her grandchildren Megan McKee, Rebecca Long, J. Michael Heneks (Danielle), Kristen Heneks Ponzio (Anthony), Wood M. Heneks III, Holly Heneks, and Samantha Heneks, and her great-grandchildren Mason Heneks and Mackenzie Heneks. Joan is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and her life long best friend Doreen Snodgrass.

Visitation: Thursday, August 14th at 10:00am at the Minshall Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, Middletown (Rte. #352) & Knowlton Rds, Middletown Twp., Media, PA 19063.

Funeral Service: Thursday, August 14th at 11:00am following the visitation at the funeral home.

Interment: Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, PA following the service.
