Obituary of Albert A. Griffith, Jr.

May 9, 1936 – September 10, 2025

Albert A. “Drew” Griffith, Jr., age 89, of Media, Pennsylvania (formerly of King of Prussia), passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, at Paoli Hospital.

Born on May 9, 1936, in Chester, Pennsylvania, “Drew” graduated from what was then known as Ridley Park High School in 1954. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Agricultural Economics from Penn State University, where he was a proud member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. He later completed a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Kansas.

Al dedicated nearly three decades of his life to serving his country as an infantry officer in the United States Army, serving for 27 years and 11 months. Enlisting first as a soldier and later graduating from Officer Candidate School (OCS), Al’s military training included airborne, amphibious, and jungle warfare, along with French language instruction. He served with distinction in both the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, completed two tours in Vietnam, and was stationed in West Germany during the Cold War. For his bravery and service, he received numerous awards, including the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, and the Meritorious Service Medal.

Following his retirement from the Army, Al transitioned into a successful career in commercial property management in the Philadelphia area, ultimately concluding his professional journey with Brandywine Realty Trust.

Al was a member of Faith Reformed Baptist Church in Media, Pennsylvania. He was a passionate fan of Penn State football and the Philadelphia Phillies. He enjoyed reading, traveling, visiting Cape May, New Jersey and spending time with family and friends. Al had a unique ability to maintain lifelong friendships, many of which dated back to his childhood.

He was predeceased by his parents, Madeleine Faunce Griffith and Albert A. Griffith, Sr., and his beloved older brother, Wayne “Bud” Irvin Griffith, who was killed in action during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II.

Al is survived by his older sister Janet Ginn of Arden, North Carolina, his daughter, Geraldine Griffith, her husband Mark Molesevich, and their sons Luke and Garrett; and by his son, Albert A. Griffith, III, his wife Michelle, and their children Joel (married to Chelsea), Susanna, Samuel, David, and Miriam.  Al is also survived by his longtime friend, Mary Jo Defino.
