Obituary of Samuel A. Hill
Samuel Hill, age 81, a resident of Swarthmore, PA, for 53 years, formerly of Springfield, PA, died on Friday, January 2, 2026.
Sam was a graduate of Springfield High School, Class of 1963. He graduated with a Business Degree from Parsons College, Fairfield, Iowa.
Sam was a purchasing manager at Amtrak. He retired as the Senior Director of Procurement in 2011. Throughout the course of his career, he also worked for Conrail and Southern Pacific and served as a professor at Rowan University and St. Joseph’s University.
He was a parishioner of Notre Dame De Lourdes Catholic Church, Swarthmore, PA.
Sam was a cross-country runner through most of his life, and had even run the NY City Marathon. He was also a skilled bowler and participated in several bowling leagues.
Sam found great joy in backyard games like horseshoes, corn hole, and bocce, often shared with family and friends.
Family was always his priority, especially his beloved grandchildren, who brought him his greatest joy.
Sam married his high school sweetheart Pat, and together they built a life full of love, laughter and family.
Son of the late Clarence Shupe Hill and Marie Catherine (Berryman) Hill; brother of the late George Hill, Helen Jensen and Marie Walsh.

Grandchildren: Brianna (Joseph) Buchler, Daniel Rau, Bryce Hill, Christopher Rau
Visitation: Thursday, January 8th from 10:00-11:15AM at the Church of Notre Dame De Lourdes, 990 Fairview Rd., Swarthmore, PA 19081.
Funeral Mass: Thursday, January 8th at 11:30AM at the church.
Interment: SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
