Idowu Ogunyemi

Obituary of Idowu Olukemi Olayide Ogunyemi

It is with heavy hearts but deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Mrs. Idowu Olukemi Olayide Ogunyemi (née Soremekun)—a woman of profound faith, unwavering grace, and a tireless advocate for the hidden pillars of the church. She entered into eternal rest on June 29, 2026.

Mrs. Ogunyemi leaves behind a powerful legacy. While she was the beloved wife of the late Archbishop Emmanuel Shody Ogunyemi, she was also a force in her own right, leaving a transformative impact on the lives of clergy wives and women across multiple dioceses of the Methodist Church Nigeria.

After her husband’s passing, she spent quality time staying with her children and found a vibrant spiritual home at the RCCG Living Spring Miracle Center, here in Linwood, where she became a devoted worshipper and cherished member.

Born in Lagos, Nigeria on July 5, 1948, to devoted Christian parents—Pa Emmanuel Okanlawon Soremekun, a pharmacist, and Ma Josephine Wuraola Soremekun, an educator—she possessed a spirit that was as warm as it was resilient. Early in her life's journey, she recognized the unique, often isolating challenges faced by those who walk beside the clergy. Rather than stepping into the background, she chose to become a beacon of support, mentorship, and advocacy.

Though her professional career was rooted as an educator and school principal, her ministry extended deeply as a lay preacher and an author—most notably penning the impactful book, “The Pastor and his Wife.” Her heart truly defined her as a servant of the people. She led with a quiet authority that required no fanfare, only a sincere devotion to others. She taught us all that true service is not about being seen, but about ensuring that others have the strength to be heard.
