Obituary of Helen W. Kunkel
Helen Wentzel Kunkel, age 101, of Middletown Twp., PA, was called to her reward from a peaceful sleep in her home on March 30, 2017.
She was the wife of Jack Kunkel for 52 years, until his death in 1993. Born in Eddystone, PA, she lived in Middletown for more than 70 years. She was devoted to her family and was a life- long member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Wallingford, PA.
She had a life-long love of the arts. In her youth, she played the violin and piano. Later she took up painting on china as well as working behind the scenes of a local theater company. She was an avid concert and theater attendee and held season tickets to the Philadelphia Orchestra. She also had a great love of nature and could name virtually all the local birds not only by sight but also by their song.
She and her husband were both active in the founding of the Middletown Free Library. Helen first worked as a volunteer on the original bookmobile and after the library was built, as a librarian for 30 years.
She is survived by her son, David S. Kunkel and his wife Pat of Virginia Beach, a daughter Carolyn S. Kunkel of Media, 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
A Memorial Service in celebration of her life will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, June 3rd, 2017 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 927 S. Providence Road, Wallingford, PA 19086, the church where she was baptized, confirmed and married.
