Obituary of Robert W. Gallager
Robert W. Gallager, age 89, of Chester, PA, and Brookhaven, PA, died September 3, 2017 at the Maris Grove Retirement Community, Glen Mills, PA.
Born in Chester Hospital to Dr. Harry and Josephine Gallager, Robert was a 1946 graduate of Chester High School. A Veteran of World War II, he served in the occupation of Japan and was a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division. He graduated from Widener College. He first worked for the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, and then was a salesman for Downham Press and later audited computer procedures for Delaware County National Bank and Beneficial Savings. He owned and operated a silk screen printing firm.
Mr. Gallager's community activities included positions in Boy Scout Troops and the Boy Scout's William Penn District, the Vestries of St. Paul's and St. John's Episcopal Churches, the Garnet Valley School Authority and Chester Rural Cemetery. The Chester Junior Chamber of Commerce selected him to receive a national award as an Outstanding Young Man in 1963. He was a volunteer to the IRS in preparation of tax returns for local citizens.
Mr. Gallager was a member of Chester Junior Chambers of Commerce, Brookhaven Seniors, Parkside Retired Men and lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion and the 11th Airborne Division Association.
