Obituary of June E. Benson

June E. (Parr) Benson, age 90, R.N. died Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Lima Estates where she has been a resident for almost six years. June was born in Vancouver, B.C. in 1920 and as a youth lived in several cities in Canada, Alaska and Washington State. She graduated from Republic High School, WA where she sang in the chorus and played on the basketball team. Her nursing training was accomplished at St. Luke's Hospital, Spokane, WA. She joined the Army Nurses Corps on May 1942 at Camp Cooke, CA and served in the South Pacific Theater as a 1st Lt. in the 92nd Evacuation Hospital for almost two and a half years. Her awards include: Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal with one battle star, the American Theater Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. June has been a member of the Reformation Lutheran Church for 50 years where she served on the Altar Guild for many years. Her other services include Brownie and Girl Scout Leader plus a number of Community activities. She was an avid bridge player and golfer and a member of the Penn Oaks Country Club for 20 years. Daughter of the late William and Vietta (Neilson) Parr and sister of the late Nancy Leonard. SURVIVORS: God has blessed her 65 year marriage to Woodruff E.
