Obituary of Joseph E. McCormick
Joseph Edward McCormick, 71, of Media, PA, passed away peacefully at Taylor Hospital on Friday, May 4, 2018. Joe grew up in Brookhaven, PA, graduated from St. James High School, and attended West Chester University. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Bureau of Driver Licensing in Middletown Twp., Media, PA.
Joe served in the United States Navy as a language specialist and was stationed in Hawaii and ROTA, Spain. He loved Spain so much he stayed for 10 years and ran a boutique called the Stoned Frog.
Joe was a lifelong lover of music and performed the base guitar in several bands, including the East Coast Surfers, One Shot Deal and Fade to Black. He recorded a CD and played in benefit concerts and in local venues such as The Rat in West Chester, PA, and Peabody’s in Havertown, PA.
Joe was a kind, honest, thoughtful and gentle person loved by his friends and family. He was a devoted friend, keeping close to friends from college and his Navy years, while making new friends along his life’s journey.
Joe is predeceased by his parents, Edward J. McCormick and Jeanne (Shields) McCormick of Brookhaven. He is survived by his daughter, Kelsie Jade McCormick and stepson Justin Collier, both of Myrtle Beach, SC, his sisters, Eileen Rosenthal of Milton, DE, and Nancy Goldfeder of Wilmington, DE, and his brother Edward McCormick of Spencer, NY.
