Obituary of Walter Longhurst, Jr.

Walter Longhurst, Jr., age 92, of Holland, PA and formerly of Aston Twp., PA, died Sunday, August 12, 2018. Walter was born September 24, 1925.  Walter served as GMM 2nd class (Gunner’s Mate) in both WWII aboard LCS(L) 61 and Korea aboard the USS Bausell.

 

Walt worked as a mechanic and supervisor for Automatic Coin Vending for 42 years and a locksmith at Eastern University for 30 years, until his retirement in 2014. He was a life member of the Aston Township Lions Club, served as president, vice president, secretary and board member and enjoyed many bus trips. Mr. Longhurst was a 50+ member of Mt Hope United Methodist Church, where he worshiped and taught Sunday School for many years, and was also a member of the administrative board. Past Skipper of LCS(L) Naval Association, he enjoyed many reunions with ship mates across the country. Walter loved his many family members and friends, church, country, Navy and Lions Club.

Son of the late Walter Longhurst, Sr. and Violet (Hall) Longhurst; father of the late

James David Longhurst, Sr. and grandfather of the late Daniel Pierce

 

Survived by his wife of 71 years Claire (Cullis) Longhurst

Children: Richard Longhurst(Karen Statter), Linda (Longhurst) Hurt,

Mary Lou (Horton) Longhurst , Jane  (Don) MacNeill,

Nancy (Mark) Pierce and Robert (Samantha Bennett)Longhurst

Brother of V. Bernice (Longhurst) Kuhar and the late John W. Price

18 grandchildren

6 great grandchildren

 

Funeral Service: Wednesday, August 15th at 12 noon at Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, Concord Road, Aston PA, where friends may call after 11:00AM.  Lions Club service 11:45 am.

Interment: Chester Rural Cemetery.
