Raymond Herbert Whitehead, Jr., 93, of Media, PA passed away peacefully at Riddle Memorial Hospital on Saturday, September 1, 2018. Ray was born in Lawrence, MA on August 4, 1925 to the late Raymond and Marion Ostler Whitehead. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Jane Cnossen Whitehead, his daughter, Debra (Charlie) Hamilton, and son, David (Linda) Whitehead. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Chip (Kristin) Hamilton, Mike Hamilton, Christina Hamilton, Matthew (Sandra) Whitehead, Heather Whitehead (Tom) Cosgrove, and Brian Whitehead, as well as 2 great grandchildren: David and Sonia Hamilton. Ray is also survived by his sister, Lois Whitehead Lowry and by nieces, nephews, and their families. He was predeceased by his brother, Harlan Whitehead.
Ray graduated from Edward F. Searles HS in Methuen, MA, then attended Navy Flight School. Upon completion of his service in the US Navy he attended Dartmouth University, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute which he graduated from in 1949 as an Aeronautical Engineer. Ray worked for Piasecki Helicopters and the Vertol Division of Boeing, retiring from Boeing after 43 years.
Ray enjoyed spending time with family and pursuing his hobbies, which included golf, fishing, bocci, bowling, gardening, and woodworking.
A private Celebration of Ray's life will be held for his family. Interment will be at Edgewood Memorial Park in Glen Mills, PA.
