Mrs. Palma was my piano teacher at Valley Forge Christian
College from 1984- 1986. I had only been playing for about 2 years. I learned so much from her during my lessons and I learned about chords in her theory class. I now use chords exclusively to play for our church worship services. I have a distinct memory that I'll never forget! I had been praying in my room and the Lord impressed me to pray for her son. I felt a great burden for him. I asked her at my next lesson if she indeed had a son. She told me yes, and asked why. I told her the story. She began to cry. It was a special moment, God had known her mothers heart, her son was not living for the Lord at the time. She contacted me a year or so later and said that God was working on him. So thankful for the training she gave me!
Betty was my piano teacher when I attended Evangel University in Springfield, MO, from 1974-1979. I started as a Music Education major with piano as my primary instrument, but I had only been playing for two years - far less time than the rest of the piano students. However, Betty treated me the same as she did the other students. She was strict and didn't allow me any excuses, but she was also so very gracious and encouraging. I feel very fortunate and honored that I had her for a teacher. She was the best as far as I was concerned, and was so supportive when I felt I ruined my piece at my first recital. I changed my major my junior year, but she never forgot me and always made an attempt to see me when I visited the campus for Homecoming. She was a wonderful lady and will be greatly missed, but I will treasure the memories I have of her.
