Obituary of Constance Stong
Constance Marie Stong Obituary
Constance M. Stong “Connie”, Beloved Mother, Wife, Grandmom, and Friend passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at the age of 80, surrounded by her loving family in Philadelphia, PA.
Born on March 5, 1944, to William S. and Mildred M. (nee King) Downie in Chester, PA.
A graduate of Chester High School in 1963 and Antonelli Institute of Art and Photography in 1986. Connie was a professional interior designer who excelled at making the most out of a design space; no room was too small to make it beautiful. Connie also enjoyed dance, music, and painting. In her childhood and teenage years she danced at Joan’s Dancing School and performed in many recitals. In 1961, she was invited to audition in New York for the Rockettes. In 1962, Connie was named Chester’s Columbus Day Queen and in 1963 competed in the Miss Delaware County pageant.
Two of Connie’s passions were her dogs and painting. Connie cherished her Schnauzers, Holly Berry and Bonnie Belle, and Yorkey, Watson. She treated them as members of the family and doted on them. She loved to paint and show her art at the River Arts Gallery in Chestertown, MD. She painted everything from beautiful portraits to stunning landscapes of nature. She captured life in paintings the same way she lived her life; with joy and beauty in each piece of art.
Connie was a member of Nativity Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and for a time managed the vacation bible school program and the church daycare. She was an active member of the Pennsylvania Suburban Women’s Association of Plumbing Heating and Cooling Contractors.
Connie enjoyed all of her grandchildren, their friends, and grandpups. She was always thrilled to have them at her house, preparing food and drinks at a moment's notice even for the grandpups. Hosting was her passion and if you left her house hungry it was your own fault. Everyone considered her their Grandmom, too.
In retirement, she enjoyed splitting her time between her homes on Churn Creek in Worton, MD, and in Cape Coral, FL with her beloved husband. The wife of the late Eric C. Stong for 56 years who predeceased her in 2020. She is survived by her children, a son William Eric Stong of Aston, PA; a daughter Jennifer A. Morris of Garnet Valley, PA; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
