Gary A. Fairchild, 71: Loving father and grandfather

Gary A. Fairchild, 71, of Wallingford, Pa. died at Bryn Mawr Hospital on August 19th after a valiant fight with cancer.

Born and raised in Corry, Pa., Gary was the son of Donald and Ethel Fairchild. He was a 1970 graduate of Corry Area High School and received bachelors and master’s degrees in mathematics from The Pennsylvania State University.

Gary was employed by EDS, Xerox and Towers Perrin where he worked as a pension actuary and computer programmer.

He attended Woodlyn Baptist Church and Mt. Hope United Methodist Church in Aston Township.

Gary was a dedicated father to his three sons and devoted grandfather to his eight grandchildren. He was an avid Penn State University football and wrestling fan and was a proud football season ticket holder for many years. Gary enjoyed all aspects of history, especially the Civil War. He visited Gettysburg regularly and spent countless hours chronicling Civil War grave sites in the Delaware County area. Gary also was very interested in his family’s historical genealogy.

In addition to his parents, Gary is predeceased by his sister, Rebecca Costello (Ron). He is survived by his sons, Brian Fairchild (Lisa), of Aston; David Fairchild (Liana), of Valhalla, NY; and Michael Fairchild (Kelsea), of Aston; also, his grandchildren Livia, Benjamin, Bradley, Emilie, Carla, Thomas, Abigail and Aubrie Fairchild.

Gary is also survived by his brothers, Mark (Darlene), Danny (Lisa), and his sister, Joan Fairchild; and by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Saturday, August 24th from 10:00-11:30AM at the Minshall Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, Middletown (Rte. #352) & Knowlton Rds., Middletown Twp., Media, PA 19063.

Services: Noon, August 28 th at Corry First Church, 650 Worth Street, Corry, Pa. Friends may call after 11 a.m.

Interment: Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry, Pa.
