Obituary of Kenneth Blanchard
Kenneth Edward Blanchard, 72, passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 10, 2013. He was born on July 24, 1940 in Orange, New Jersey, to the late Kenneth and Ethel Blanchard. Ken was a long time resident of Delaware County, Pennsylvania, after his family moved to the area in 1944.
After graduating from Lansdowne High School, Ken earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania Military College (PMC, now Widener University) then went on to the University of Delaware, where he received his Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
During Ken's Army career, upon which he always reminisced with pride and gratitude, he attained the rank of Captain and served as the Executive Officer of his unit in Korea. After the armed services, he enjoyed an array of professions, ranging from clamming the inland shores of New Jersey, to Senior Engineer at Gulf and Western.
Ultimately, Ken started his company, Phonetics, Inc. d.b.a. Sensaphone, in 1985 to manufacture and sell the remote monitoring device that he invented and patented. From its creation in the basement of his family home, Sensaphone has grown into a mult-million dollar company located in Aston, PA, resulting from Ken's relentless pursuit of innovation and the tireless loyalty of his personnel. Ken was very dedicated to his company and his employees, who regarded him highly as both a mentor and friend.
Ken had a lifelong affinity for boats and could be found every Spring, Summer, and Fall weekend with his family on their boat, "Little Miss", at Great Oak Landing on the Chesapeake Bay. His first term as Commodore of the Great Oak Yacht Club was in 1996. He did such a wonderful job that he was asked to serve again in that capacity this coming year.
The memory that most will share, is one of a man who never felt more at home than when on the water. Ken was first and foremost a family man whose devotion was unparalleled, and his countless friends knew him as generous, wise and loyal.
