Obituary of Warren S. Rees

Warren Shreiner Rees, 88, of Concord Twp., PA, died suddenly at his home on Wednesday, October 9, 2013. Mr. Rees was a devoted family man who was admired by everyone who knew him. Born in Bayonne, NJ, to the late Frank and Anna Rees (nee Shreiner) in 1925; he graduated from Bayonne Technical High School, attended the Academy of Advanced Traffic, Rutgers University and Johns Hopkins University. He served in the US Army during WWII. During that time, he was able to attend the infamous Nuremburg Trials. He served in the Army Reserves for 39 years, retiring in 1985. Warren retired from Conrail, previously Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) and Penn Central, in1987 after 43 years of dedicated service. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth (nee Barnes) Rees who died in 1975, and his brother, Frank Rees, who died in 1989. Warren married Ruth Sarah Barnes in 1948 and, in 1950, they settled in Iselin, NJ. Ruth and Warren raised three children, twins Nancy and Thomas, and Shirley. Here Warren became a member of Mt. Zion Lodge No. 135 Free & Accepted Masons. In Iselin, NJ, Ruth and Warren were very active with the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and were the founders and first presidents of the Skeeter Swatters, a chapter of the National Campers & Hikers Association (NCHA). While residing in Iselin, NJ, and working fulltime at PRR, Warren's part time jobs included the Woodbridge Township Police Reserves, the US Army Reserves, S. Klein, and his own mail order company - Gift Delite. In 1968, the family moved to Joppa, MD. There they started The Gunpowder Rovers, another chapter of the NCHA, and were also active members of the Church of the Resurrection, Gunpowder Hundred. After a subsequent promotion in 1974, the family moved to Concord Township, PA. Once retired, Warren became active in the Armed Forces E9 Association (formerly the Retired Sergeants Major and Chiefs Association, Inc.); Keystone Chapter - AFE9A; Fort Dix Retiree Council; Concord Township Senior Citizens Club; Personal Computer Users Group of Delaware County; the American Legion and the American Legion PA. He was webmaster for many organizations and sent weekly newsletters for many of them until his death. He received numerous awards and certificates for his outstanding accomplishments. Warren will be remembered by all for his knowledge, sense of humor, love of challenges and determination. In 1989, Warren married Maria Zueva of Irkutsk, Siberia, Russia. Some of Warren's hobbies included; website design, volunteering, stimulating conversation, animals/pets, travel, jokes, gardening, tent camping, hiking, swimming, canoeing and snow sledding. Korea, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his faithful companions, Tiger and Groomka. Memorial Contributions may be donated in memory of Warren S.
