Obituary of Gwendolyn Marie Lawrence

Gwendolyn M. Lawrence 9/1/1923 - 8/19/2014 Gwendolyn Marie Lawrence, after a long illness, died peacefully, a month and a day following the death of her dear husband, Robert Jay Lawrence. She is survived by her beloved son, David J. Lawrence, and her adoring daughter Lynne C. Harvey and son-in-law Charles H. Harvey. Gwen was the proud grandmother to Lt. Com. Chad H. Harvey, USN, his wife, Marisa, and great-grand mother to Addison and Charlotte. Gwen was born in Milwaukee., Wisconsin on September 1, 1923 to Henry Carl Forrer and Nellie Schalk- Boetcher Forrer. Her parents and her brother Donald Forrer were caterers in Madison. Gwen was educated in Wisconsin, and was one of the first of her family to achieve a university education. She received a Bachelor Degree in Nutrition and Health from the University of Wisconsin. She met and married Robert J Lawrence at the University. She and Bob moved to Pittsburg, and later to Indiana, where she got a Masters Degree in Education from Indiana University. She worked as a dietitian and taught home economics in Indiana, and later, settling in Media, Pennsylvania, where she was a Guidance Counselor at Nether Providence Middle School. She always enjoyed food and cooking, entertaining and travel. She wrote several cookbooks and books on art & poetry. She continued her education after retiring by attending and teaching classes at Penn State Delaware Campus. Gwen was an intelligent, modern career woman, before career women were common. She will be missed by the many people that met her and loved her.
