Obituary of Ann Twombly

Ann C. Twombly, (86), died on December 24, 2014 at her home in Riddle Village, Media, PA. She was born in Chester, PA on June 11, 1928, the oldest daughter of Guy G. deFuria, Esq. and Caroline deFuria, longtime residents of Swarthmore , PA. She graduated from Swarthmore High School and from Brown University (Pembroke College). She was married to the late J. Robert (Bob) Twombly, Esq. and worked as a legal secretary at Harvard Law School, where Bob received his law degree. Ann was a longtime resident of Wallingford, PA, and later moved to Hershey’s Mill, and then to Riddle Village, in Media, PA. She was a member of Rolling Green Golf Club, Rose Valley Swim Club, a 50-year member of the women’s philanthropic educational organization ( P.E.O.), the Rose Tree Garden Club, and many book discussion groups. Ann attended Philadelphia Orchestra concerts weekly for many years, and was an avid skier and golfer. Over the last 10 years, Ann enjoyed getaways with her partner, Dick DiBatista, especially to her condo in Sugarbush, VT. Ann was predeceased by her husband, J. Robert Twombly, Esq. and her sister, Caroline A. deFuria. She was survived by her daughter, Carol T. Dixon, and her husband, Michael, of Wallingford, PA and by her son, John R. Twombly, Jr., Esq.,and his wife, Simone, of West Chester, PA, her grandchildren, Eric, PhilAnn, Annika, Stefan and her step-grandson, Philip, and by her nephew, Bill Wittreich of Broomfield, CO., and her niece, Deb Zwetsch, of Bokeelia, FL. A reception for family and close friends will be held on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 PM at her residence in Riddle Village.
