Obituary of William R. Johnston

William R. Johnston, Sr., 88, of Brookhaven, PA died Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Cooper River West Hospice House, Pennsauken, NJ. Mr. Johnston was born in Philadelphia, PA. He had been a resident of Brookhaven since August 1952. Mr. Johnston was a graduate of John Bartram High School, Class of 1940. He was employed by Local 5, International Union of Elevator Constructors, for 35 years, until his retirement in 1985. He served in the Army during World War II and was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon, a Good Conduct Ribbon, and 1 Battle Star. Mr. Johnston was a member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, Aston, where he taught Sunday School. He was a man devoted to his family and he especially loved his grandchildren. Holidays with his family were very special to him, and he also enjoyed working around his home. He was a member of Local 5 Golden Rail Retirement Club and a former member of the Bartram-Paul Sands Lodge. He also was an original season ticket holder of the Flyers for many years.
