Obituary of Francis D. Culley

Francis Donald Culley, age 91, of Glen Mills, PA, died Thursday, July 30th, 2015, at Naamans Creek Country Manor in Boothwyn, PA, due to complications following a recent fall. Known as “Larry” Culley, he was the son of the late Frank D. and Mildred Culley. Larry graduated from Chester High School in 1941, and was captain of the Baseball and Basketball teams. He served in the US Army during World War II and was wounded in combat in France in July of 1944. Larry spent most of his working career at John F. Cullis and Sons in Chester, PA, as a senior member of the management team, until his retirement in 1988. He was a member and past president (1964) of the Chester Optimist Club, and was an avid golfer throughout the latter part of his life. He also loved fishing and playing with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Nancy and a sister Margaret Hassin of Clearwater, FLA, five children by his first wife, the late Ruth Klotz Culley (1971), Donald of Boothwyn, PA, Paul (Marguerite) of Beach Haven, NJ, Ann Mercadante (John) of Wilmington DE, Joseph (Irene) of Glenolden, PA and Elizabeth Howanski (Joseph) of Broomall, PA, three stepchildren, Scott Murphy (Betty), John Murphy and Suzanne Waterloo (Matthew) of West Chester, PA. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and five step grandchildren. Funeral Service: Wednesday at 11:00AM at the Minshall Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, Middletown (Rte. #352) & Knowlton Rds., Middletown Twp., Media, PA 19063 Visitation: Wednesday after 10:00AM at the funeral home. Interment: SS Peter & Paul Cemetery
