Obituary of Mary L Voell

Mary L Voell, 100, longtime resident of Darby, PA died peacefully on Friday, Sept 11th at Gilpin Hall Nursing Home in Wilmington, DE. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of Giuseppe and Antoinette Leone. She is predeceased by her son Anthony Voell, survived by her daughter Annette (George) Lamoureux, daughter-in-law Tina Voell, grandchildren TJ (Amanda) Voell, David (Tara) Voell, Jocelyn (Heath) Wells, Father Matthew Lamoureux MIC, Janae Lamoureux, Colleen (Nicholas) Masters, 5 great grandchildren with 1 on the way, sister-in-law Susanna Leone and 3 nieces. Mary was also preceded in death by Leone siblings Joseph, Louis, Alfred, Edmond, Matilda (Frank) DiPaolo, Albert and Joseph. Mary was born in Philadelphia and grew up on Grays Ferry Ave. in Philadelphia. After marriage, she resided in Darby for 59 years, Bellingham Retirement Community in East Goshen for 7 years, then at Gilpin Nursing Home for the last 2 and a half years. Mary worked as a seamstress at the Blum Store for 35 years and then Bonwit Teller. She was fond to mention that two of the people that she worked on during that time were Princess Grace of Monaco and a daughter of President Roosevelt. She had a great love of the Mummers, and for breaking into song at the drop of a hat (with “Oh Marie” and “Holy God We Praise Thy Name”, being two of her favorites). She had a great faith and was known for bringing a smile to anyone with whom she came in contact. A very sweet and loving person, she will be missed by all who knew her. The family would like to express its appreciation for all the love and care provided by her “angels” at Gilpin Hall Nursing Home during her time there. Friends and family may call between 9:00-10:15AM on Thursday, September 17th at the Saint Thomas the Apostle (Old Church - 430 Valleybrook Road, Chester Heights, PA) with Mass of Christian burial taking place at 10:30. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s name can be made to the Marians of the Immaculate Conception, 2 Prospect Hill, Stockbridge, MA 01262 (or via their website of www.marian.org).
