Obituary of Marilyn E. Hess

Marilyn E. Hess, Ph.D, a long-time resident of Philadelphia, died Tuesday, October 20, 2015 of natural causes at the Quadrangle in Haverford, PA. Born December 31, 1924, in Erie, Pennsylvania. Marilyn received a Bachelor’s of Science from Villa Maria College in 1946. She continued her education at the University of Pennsylvania, from which she received a Masters in Science in 1949, her Ph.D in Pharmacology in 1957 and a Masters degree in Education in 1985. Marilyn taught Pharmacology for many years at the School of Medicine at Penn, and received numerous awards and accolades during her very long tenure at the University. She retired from the University at the age of 85, as a Professor Emeritus. Marilyn loved her family, Penn, good food, travel and her opera. She was also an avid Phillies, Eagles and Penn State fan. She is survived by her niece Karla Cook, RN, her nephew, the Honorable Kevin Hess, and nieces Lesley Desautels and Gillian Desautels. Eight grandnieces and nephews, and numerous great grand nieces and nephews. Memorial Service: Friday, November 6th at 11:00AM at the Minshall, Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, Middletown (Rte.# 352) & Knowlton Rds., Middletown Twp. Media, PA 19063 Visitation: Friday November 6th, from 10:00-11:00AM at the funeral home Interment: Private In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The American Heart Association or The American Cancer Society.
