Obituary of Gertrude M. Zahn

1923-2015 Gertrude "Trudy" Margaret Zahn, a long time Delaware County resident and recently of Glen Mills, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Trudy was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served during World War II in Pensacola, FL. She worked as an Administrative Assistant for NuCar Carriers and Lufthansa Airlines and retired in the 1980's. Trudy volunteered at the Pennsylvania Veterans Museum, Media Armory within the past 10 years. She was a member of the former WAVES, Keystone Chapter, a national organization now recognized as Military Women Across the Nation. Trudy enjoyed spending time with her late husband, Herb, of almost 50 years and vacationing in their Pocono Mountain home. Together, family members knew them as compassionate and unconditionally loving to their extended family. Trudy enjoyed family time, traveling with friends and family, bird watching, observing nature and was an avid walker. She particularly enjoyed walking to and around the Swarthmore College campus in the spring when the cherry blossoms were at their peak. Her passion for nature exemplified Trudy's beautiful personality. She was an inspiration to others with her courage and giving nature. Family members are grateful for having such a loving relative who brought out the best in everyone that she touched. She will be greatly missed and eternally remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Trudy was the daughter of the late Seamus Grimes Hegarty and Maryann (Crilly) Hegarty both of Ireland; and the sister of the late Letitia Bridget, Mary Josephine, Anna Jane, Veronica Elizabeth, Eileen Frances and Rita Marie.
