She was the oldest daughter of 7 children, born in Lima, PA on March 16, 1930 to Truman and Dollyne Whitmore. As a child, she performed in Philadelphia regularly, singing on Gimble's Uncle WIP radio show in the 1940's. June was a 1948 graduate of Media High School, and taught piano. She went on to have a 20 year career as the executive assistant to the Chairman of Downingtown Paper Company, and later for Dr. I.S. Ravdin of the University of Pennsylvania. June sang in the Senior Choir her whole life, often performing as a soloist on Christmas and Easter. She was well-known for the gift of her beautiful mezzo-soprano voice.
