Obituary of Joseph L. Talento, Sr.

1921 – 2016 Joseph Lawrence Talento Sr., beloved husband of Mary Sourenian Talento, passed away peacefully in their Upper Providence Township home of fifty years on January 14, 2016. He was ninety-four years old. Mr. Talento, the fourth of six children, was born and grew-up in Wilkinsburg, PA, a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated from Wilkinsburg High School and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgy from the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1948. During WW II, Mr. Talento worked on technology directly related to the Manhattan Project which produced the first American atomic bomb. He later served until the end of the war in the United States Army stationed in Aberdeen, MD. For thirty-five years Mr. Talento worked with the General Electric Company. His last thirty years at GE's SwitchGear Facility in Philadelphia at 6901 Elmwood Avenue. There he finished his working career as Manager of the Metallurgy, Ceramics and Electrochemistry Laboratory. Married at Beverly Hills United Presbyterian Church in 1959, Mr. Talento served on the Church Session as a Ruling Elder. His family later transferred their church memberships to Media Presbyterian Church where he and Mary remain members of the Media congregation in good standing. Mr. Talento, enjoyed a thirty year retirement with his wife, Mary, two sons, Joe, Jr. and David, daughter-in-law, Cheryl, two grandchildren, Suzanna and Michael and sister, Mary Talento.
