My husband, Glen, and I, met Ernie and Helen. as others have mentioned, through our mutual work association, SMACNA. Glen was, at the time, the young Canadian representative. I remember how welcoming the Menolds were to us.
Ernie was a Prince of a man. The world a nicer place because people like Ernie and Helen. Sixty years married what a gift but still it must be lonely now. Helen, and extended family, our deepest condolences.
I first met Ernie when he was a grad student at Notre Dame and I was a senior. Over the years our paths and families crossed many times. We worked together throughout the years on SMACNA committees and activities. Always an enjoyable experience for me. Judy and I have only fond memories of the Menolds. You have our deepest sympathy.

Our sincerest condolences for the loss of Poppop. We will be keeping your family in our prayers during this difficult time.
My heart goes out to Helen and all the family on the loss of a true gentleman. It truly was a blessing for me to have known Ernie through the SMCA family as he was a great mentor for all those who followed in his footsteps. God Bless,
Ernie was a gentleman and a great proponent for the sheet metal industry. My condolences to the family.
We are so sorry for your loss, our deepest, dearest sympathies to Helen, and the entire Menold family. He will be missed.
We’d like to extend our heartfelt condolences to Helen and the entire Menold family at this difficult time. “Big Ernie” led an impressive life and was a true gentleman and humble man. Working for Ernest D. Menold, Inc. was one of the greatest chapters of my life. The Menold family was very good to me. Ernie and Helen gave me and Charlene champagne glasses as a wedding gift. They also gave our son Miles a “Radio Flyer” wagon. I’ll be eternally grateful to the Menold family for having the abilty to earn a living working for them. Every day working at Ernest D. Menold, Inc. was like a Friday. God bless you all. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
John, Charlene and Miles Lutz
Our deepest sympathies to the Menold’s
Family.

Sending this amazing family lots of love and hugs. Pop-pop sounds like a superhero. May your memories of him bring you comfort and peace. ❤️
Helen and family,
So sorry for your loss. Always enjoyed Ernie when I was deacon at Lenni .2tP27Giant man with a giant heart and lovely lady at his side. I’ll offer Mass for him. God bless you all with peace.
Dear Helen and family, So sorry to hear about your lose. Patty called me today to let me know.
Walked to Saint Clement Just about every day with Ernie, his dad and mine were friends also.
The move to Springfield made our paths cross at West. Fond memories with a old friend, Rest In Peace Ernie.
As a young person, I will always remember sitting on the beach talking with him about Tom Clancy and James Michener novels… I will always remember him singing and teaching me the words to T’was an Evening Way Late in October, a highly inappropriate song to teach a very young person, and one which I now sing to my very young children. I will always remember sailing with him in the Sunfish on 4th Lake - I always preferred to sail with Uncle Ernie, because he always sailed under control and never tipped the boat… He will be dearly missed.
Mrs. Menold, Ernie, Linda, Debbie and Michael, I will keep Mr. Menold and all of you in my thoughts and prayers. As someone who can count himself among the many people who was the recipient of his generosity and kindness, I consider myself very lucky. My favorite memory was a time at your second home in the woods. He took a bunch of us on a wild ride down an old railroad bed in what I remember as an old jeep. He had the same wonderful enthusiasm as the boys that he was entertaining. I will keep that thought in mind as I think of him and you.
Best,
Terry Rodgers

Our hearts go out to you all. Ernie & Helen have always been role models for a strong family. Remember showing up on the doorstep with three little girls in tow and Ernie, unaware Helen offered us a place to stay for a few weeks between houses, entertained those little girls graciously. John remembers the off key male songs with the st Francis choir. Many, many good memories. Happy that Ernie is at peace with our lord and want those left behind to know we are here for whatever you need. Love the Messers
It is with a heavy heart that I write this; somehow I thought our big bear of a neighbor and dear friend would live forever. Growing up next door to you both was like living with extended family. I cherish the memories of our times together growing up on Linvill Road. Mr. Menold always had a smile, encouraging word and that deep reassuring voice; his whole demeanor was very calm and he was a comfort to be around! What an astute and accomplished gentleman. He gave of his time and always seemed to put others before himself. (Thanks for helping dig our snow trails, for the singing, for the Pre-Cana, for the mountain trips, for rating my prom dates, for your constant support of everyone and for being present for the most important parts of life...family my times!) it was an honor to know this man and we were blessed to have him touch our lives❤️ Heartfelt condolences to the entire Menold family. Love,
Connie Jean(Campbell)Cenatiempo and Children
Mrs. Menold, Ernie, Linda and family:
There are no words to fill the void we feel at the passing of Mr. Menold. The description of him as a giant of a man is perfect. Larger than life in so many ways yet the kindest, most gracious man you could imagine.
We remember the hospitality and laughs at the ND tailgates with all the Menolds and the extended family from Howard Hall. His laugh filled the room, tent or wherever he was having fun! We are so much better for having had the chance to know him.
We will pray for his peaceful repose and for all of you to have comfort in knowing you will all be reunited with him in heaven.
With prayers,
The Kane Family
Tina and I are heartbroken for the entire Menold family...may God give you all peace and strength...our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
Helen,
I was so very sorry to learn of your loss. You and Ernie have been such a marvelous inspiration to your family of true married love. I am so thankful that Ernie was able to have the kidney transplant so he could share extra years with his family that was so dear to him and you. I will remember you and your family in prayer as you celebrate Ernie's life. I truly wish I could join you at his Mass but am out of town right now.
God Bless you and your family,
De Vitale
