Obituary of Paula Kay Litow
Paula Kay Litow, age 76, of Media, Pennsylvania, died at home on Sunday, July 7th, surrounded by the love of her family.
Paula was born on February 24, 1948, in Washington, D.C., to Howard and Pauline Leedy.
She held an undergraduate degree from West Virginia University and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Boston University. Later in life, Paula obtained a second Master’s Degree in Library Science from Long Island University. Paula dedicated her career to education, serving as a Children's Librarian at Orangeburg Public Library and a School Librarian at New City Elementary until her retirement in 2012.
Upon her graduation from Boston University, Paula established one of the first group homes for adults with special needs in the greater Boston area. It was also in Boston where she met her future husband, Ron. Their unforgettable first date occurred during the blizzard of 1978 and they became inseparable from that moment on. They married and built a beautiful life together, eventually settling in Tappan, NY, where they raised their three daughters: Sara, Emily, and Juliet.
Throughout her life, Paula was an avid reader and dog lover. She was also passionate about gardening and could often be found working in her yard with Ron. As a former Master Gardener, she had the unique ability to transform any space into a beautiful garden. Paula was actively involved in the communities in which she lived, having served as an EMT, a member of The Marple Tree Commission, and a participant in St. Mary Magdalen's Senior Club.
After retiring, Paula and Ron relocated to Media, PA, to be close to their three daughters and six grandchildren. She cherished her role as ‘Nanny,’ and spent countless hours with her grandchildren, always attending their school and sporting events. She also loved reading to them and her storytelling brought books to life in a magical way. Among all her accomplishments, Paula was most proud of her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband Ron, daughters Sara Levy (Zach), Emily Kondilis (Anthony), Juliet Degnan (John), and grandchildren, Leila (12), Everett (12), Nathan (8), Natalie (6), Arden (5) and Emory (3).
